Roles: Description and Installation

Have a Question?

Carbonio CE may be deployed as a Single-Server, with all Roles on the same Node, or as a Multi-Server, with Roles on different Nodes.

Please carefully consider these parts before attempting to install.

Carbonio CE is composed of Roles.

Installing certain Roles creates a Carbonio CE infrastructure.

A Role is a Carbonio CE capability that is atomic in nature and consists of one or more packages.

The functions of Carbonio CE
We may classify the available Carbonio CE roles into three macro categories:
  • Infrastructure roles are essential in every Carbonio CE implementation.
  • Service roles expand the fundamental capabilities offered by Carbonio CE.
  • Advanced roles are not yet available, but will give resilience to Carbonio CE.
A Carbonio installation is comprised of the following roles.
How to Install Roles
Before presenting each Role and the procedures required for proper installation, please examine these key remarks:
  • While the fundamental technique is the same for Ubuntu and RHEL 8, the specific instructions and file paths may change between the two operating systems, so make sure you run the proper command on the correct files and operating system. The different commands are split as follows. Click the Ubuntu or RHEL tab, depending on the operating system you are using to install Carbonio CE.
  • All instructions included in this installation method must be done as the root user.
  • If you encounter any problems during the installation, please go to Section System Troubleshooting, where you will find useful commands.
  • When the installation is complete, you may use a browser to view Carbonio CE’s GUI; instructions are provided in Section view to the Web Interface.
  • You must first install the Database Role, then the Mesh and Directory Roles. Then you may move on to the additional infrastructure roles, and lastly any other roles that you may require for your installation.
